If the PredictWind Girls Regatta had a motto, it would probably be: “Less wind? More fun!” The final day of this all-girls sailing celebration may have been light on breeze, but it was heavy on sunshine, smiles, and serious girl gang energy.

The day kicked off at Kohimarama Yacht Club to on an inspiring note. None other than Vendee Globe sailor Conrad Colman showed up to fire up the sailors with stories from his solo, around-the-world adventures. Safe to say, jaws dropped. Who knew one person could survive monster waves, sleep deprivation, and still have a better skincare routine than most of us? Thankfully SailGP San Francisco was playing, and some girls tuned in to watch that action unfold.

With the wind taking its sweet time arriving (just like the PredictWind forecast app forecasted), the morning was spent onshore — cue epic giggle-fueled games, TikTok dances, and some questionable but enthusiastic karaoke. The energy was sky-high even if the sails weren’t.

Eventually, the call came: AP is dropping! Time to hit the water! So, fleets were launched, hats and Oakley sunglasses secured, and out the girls went… into a serene, mirror-flat harbour, perfect for fishing! Still, these sailors weren’t about to let a little (okay, a lot of) calm get in the way of fun. On-the-water games broke out instantly — splash fights, synchronised drifting, boat swapping, and a level of laughter that may or may not have startled the local seagulls.

But finally, the wind must’ve caught the contagious excitement because it just showed up enough to let some racing begin. Light conditions meant it was all about finesse, patience, and knowing just when to lean in and when to let the boat ghost along. It was a true test of skill, and these young sailors rose to the challenge like absolute champs.

As boats packed away, the vibe was clear: this wasn’t just a regatta. It was a celebration of courage, friendship, and fierce female fun on the water.

No boys allowed? You bet. Just a full crew of confident, capable girls showing that sailing is as much about joy and support as it is about competition.

We laughed. We drifted. We technically raced. And we cannot wait to do it all again next year. Same sails, same spirit — just maybe a little more wind. But hey, no promises.

It’s actually quite difficult to describe what the Kohimarama Yacht Club PredictWind Girls Regatta is really all about – so make sure you check out the photos to get a sense of this epic annual event.
