Solutions to some of the planet’s biggest ocean challenges like plastic, pollution and fishing will be in the spotlight with trailblazing experts and solutions focused science also exploring Australia’s leadership opportunity at the fourth annual Blue Solutions Summit in Sydney on March 20, 2024.

Staged at the Australian National Maritime Museum as part of the Volvo Ocean Lovers Festival, the solutions focused event draws in blue business entrepreneurs and organisations as well as scientists and innovators to drive inspiration and collaboration.

Three expert panel themes are drawn from the Ocean Decade Australia White Paper where 120 of the nation’s top leaders in ocean advocacy outlined the greatest challenges and opportunity areas for Australia to deliver on during the current United Nations Ocean Decade.

Ocean Plastic and Pollution – Time to Act will address the urgent crisis engulfing the world’s ocean and explore trail blazing solutions being developed in Australia.

Fishing and the future of Food will unpick the intersection of ocean resources and global food security where innovation and pioneering approaches are addressing environmental impact and providing viable sustainable future food options.

Ocean Innovation – Australia’s Opportunity will look at the transformative impact of innovation and how Australia can and is seizing the chance to be a global leader in protecting as well as utilising our nation’s massive ocean estate.

Lucy Buxton from Ocean Decade Australia will set the scene with a keynote address and ABC presenter James Valentine will host a special hypothetical at the conclusion, providing a scenario developed by a dozen members of the Youth Advisory Panel posing their concerns and challenging experts about the future of ocean care.
