A division for classic yachts will return to the Sydney Harbour Regatta after an absence of ten years.

The SHR, conducted by the Middle Harbour Yacht Club, will be held on the weekend of March 2 and 3 next year.

“We’re delighted to welcome back the classics”, said MHYC Special Events Chairman, Ian Box. “Classic yachts form an essential part of the heritage of sailing in Sydney.

“It’s wonderful that so many are still racing and the regatta will be enhanced by their participation.”

MHYC Sailing Manager, David Staley, has confirmed the initial broad outlines of the competition.

There are to be three races in the series: two shorter events on the Saturday and a more extended sail on the Sunday.

The courses will be within the main harbour area around marks familiar to the regular classic crews racing with the Sydney Amateur Sailing Club and the CYCA veteran’s events.

Staley also confirmed that it is likely there will be separate spinnaker and non-spinnaker divisions.

Yachts that have already indicated their intention to compete in next year’s regatta include Solveig, Caprice of Huon, Archina, Camille and Mister Christian.
