Derwent Sailing Squadron were crowned VIC Sailing League Champions last weekend after some heated racing at the VIC Sailing League Final during Festival of Sails at Royal Geelong Yacht Club.

The team, skippered my Alice Buchanan alongside crew Amy Potter, Ed Broadby and Rohan Langford, had a very successful weekend not only taking out the 2023 VIC Sailing League title but also securing themselves a spot in the SAILING Champions League – Asia Pacific Final.

The final was a first-to-two-wins format, however Derwent Sailing Squadron started with a race win by winning the qualifying series. Beginning the final on match point, Buchanan and her team sailed extraordinarily well to close out the win after just one race.

The top four Victorian clubs; Royal Brighton Yacht Club, Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron, Royal Geelong Yacht Club and Sandringham Yacht Club also qualified for the Asia Pacific Final in May.

The event, run during Festival of Sails at Royal Geelong Yacht Club, saw 8 teams compete and another 5 spots for the SAILING Champions League – Asia Pacific Finals taken. Eyes are now set on the final state league event, the NSW Sailing League Metropolitan Qualifier and NSW Sailing League Final coming up in March and April respectively, closely followed by the SAILING Champions League – Asia Pacific Finals in May.
