Expressions of Interest sought to transform Snug Cove Maritime Precinct
The NSW Government’s vision to transform the Port of Eden into a major cruise and boating destination is taking shape with private investors asked to help create a thriving maritime precinct.
Minister for Transport, Veterans and Western Sydney David Elliott said expressions of interest would be sought later this year from private investors keen to help transform that vision to reality through the delivery of a mixed-use marina development.
“This is an exciting opportunity for businesses and investors, keen to become a part of a booming maritime precinct, to lease and operate sections of the Snug Cove Maritime Precinct within the Port of Eden,” Mr Elliott said.
“Eden has been identified as a significant investment location to support the cruise industry, commercial fishing, tourism and recreational boating in NSW, private investment at the Snug Cove precinct will further unlock its tourism potential and meet visitor demand for harbourside activities.
“It is an exciting time to be involved in the hospitality, tourism and maritime industry following the return of cruising to Australia and Disney’s recent announcement they would operate cruises in Australia, with the Port of Eden included as a key destination. As a result, the 2022/23 season is set to break all records for cruise ship visits to Eden.”
President of the Legislative Council of NSW Matthew Mason-Cox said Port of Eden was already a significant maritime hub and tourist destination with the Sapphire Coast attracting about one million visitors each year.
“The Port of Eden supports one of the largest fishing fleets in the state, the Royal Australian Navy and Bega Valley region’s timber industry and is fast becoming a popular destination for the cruise industry,” Mr Mason-Cox said.
“The development of the Snug Cove Maritime Precinct will deliver an additional economic boost to the local community and I encourage all businesses who want to be a part of this harbour transformation to submit an expression of interest.”
Transport for NSW will hold market engagement activities for interested businesses, followed by a formal Expressions of Interest process. Further information is available the Transport for NSW website
