AkzoNobel Yacht Coatings is furthering its commitment to creating a more sustainable industry through a new partnership with the Water Revolution Foundation.

The independent, not-for-profit organisation, established in 2018, works to preserve the world’s oceans by helping the yachting industry to drive down environmental impact.

The partnership is part of AkzoNobel’s long-term commitment to creating a more sustainable industry, by pioneering solutions to reduce its impact on the planet and provide environmentally-friendly products and services for its customers.

As an official partner, AkzoNobel Yacht Coatings will share the expert knowledge and insight it has acquired through developing some of the most innovative primers, fillers, top coats, and underwater hull coatings in the market through its International® and Awlgrip® ranges.

Jean-Michel Gauthier, Managing Director of Global Marine, Protective & Yacht Coatings at AkzoNobel, comments: “We have a natural connection with the Water Revolution Foundation and share the same goals, in that we both want to create a more eco-conscious and more sustainable yacht industry.

“In just a few short years, the foundation has already made great strides to build a more environmentally friendly sector by working alongside superyacht owners, designers and yards within the industry and drawing on its abundant resources.

“For example, its Yacht Assessment Tool has transformed the industry by enabling decision makers to fully assess the environmental impact of superyachts – such as on global warming, ozone layer depletion and water scarcity footprint – and equip them with the information needed to make sustainable choices.

“We pride ourselves on our sustainable products and, by teaming up with the foundation, we are committed to conserving our oceans – the world’s most precious resources.

“We look forward to working closely with the Water Revolution Foundation and are excited about what we can achieve together.”

AkzoNobel’s efforts saw it reach #1 on Sustainalytics’ ESG Risk Rating for the paintings and coatings industry in 2020, and it has received the highest possible MSCI rating (AAA) for the past six consecutive years. In 2020, it was also part of Clean 2000 – a ranking of the companies with the highest revenue from sustainable solutions.

As part of the new partnership, the Water Revolution Foundation – and the wider yacht markets – will benefit from AkzoNobel’s extensive technology experience in multiple sectors including the automotive, aerospace and powder industries.

Robert van Tol, Executive Director at Water Revolution Foundation, said: “Our organisation is founded from within the yachting sector, to collectively ensure its sustainability, including ocean health.

“AkzoNobel has shown its leadership in sustainability for many years and we are united in our passion and ambitions to build a more environmentally-friendly sector.

“We’re pleased to welcome them on board as an official partner and we very much look forward to working together to drive and accelerate change in the superyacht industry.”
