Members of the Wooden Boat Association of NSW gathered at Woolwich Dock in mid-November to celebrate the launching of WBA Vice President, Bill Thompson’s exquisite Folkboat ‘Isabella’. The launch followed a 6 year build project with the hull of NZ Kauri planking, with Celery Top Pine ribs and Flooded Gum backbone timbers.

Bill is a long-time member of the Folkboat ‘family,’ as would be expected from the nephew of Ann Gash, who circumnavigated the world in her timber Folkboat, Illimo, between 1975 and 1977.

Bill has named his yacht after his granddaughter.

Isabella joins a growing list of newly launched wooden boats, with several more, including 2 Cliff Gale- designed builds and a self-designed 9 metre motor sailer, underway.

The new Folkboat will grace the Sunday Classics Division with the Sydney Amateur Sailing Club on Sunday afternoons in Sydney.
