The 2021 Heaven Can Wait Charity Sailing Regatta will go ahead as planned. A recent organising committee meeting decided to proceed with the event following the relaxation of restrictions linked to the Covid19 pandemic. The regatta will be staged on the beautiful waters of Lake Macquarie over the weekend of February 20-21, 2021, with the traditional Pre-Regatta Charity Dinner to be held on the Friday night – February 19, at the Royal Motor Yacht Club Toronto.

As the name implies, the regatta is a fund-raising event supporting the Hunter Branch of Cancer Council NSW and more specifically, their Home Help program that provides domestic support to terminal and recovering Cancer patients. A small amount of the funds collected goes to Lake Macquarie Marine Rescue who provide on water support during the running of the regatta. The 2020 regatta raised $46,000 for the charities bringing the total charity donations to be in excess of $300,000.

The Regatta incorporates 5 different races catering for all levels of skill and different classes of boats. The events include:

  • A short course Dinghy / Sailboard Dash
  • A Half Lap Dash around the northern end of the lake
  • A One Lap Dash Classic – a race around the whole lake
  • A 12 Hour Challenge – a handicapped distance over time race around the whole lake
  • A 24 Hour Endurance – a handicapped distance over time race around the whole lake

As has been the case for the past 5 years, The Heaven Can Wait Charity Sailing Regatta will be a part of Lakefest – a 3 week celebration of all things aquatic on Lake Macquarie from February 13 to March 6. 2021.
