RQYS logoThe Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron capitalised on the recent easing of Queensland COVID restrictions and immediately rebooted the sailing calendar the next day, Saturday 11 July 2020.

Events kicked off with the popular QLD Youth Week that for 2020 was compressed into a weekend. The event attracted a pleasing 94 entries from: 29er, 420, Flying 11, Laser 4.7 and Radial, NACRA 15, O’pen Skiff (Bic), Optimist, and Sabot classes.

Weather over the weekend was typical South East Queensland in winter with light variable breezes.  Despite these challenges on Saturday race officials were able to get racing away with the 29er class completing four races.  Sunday was again challenging with fleets held ashore under AP before being released at about 11:45. Perseverance by the race officials and competitors paid off and all fleets sailed enough races for series.

Results from the weekend are on the next page.

Commodore Barry Cuneo noted today that “It was so good to see so many smiling youth sailors on the rigging lawns over the weekend just happy to be back sailing with their friends”.
