Expressions of interest are invited from persons with areas of expertise within maritime to be appointed to the Maritime Advisory Council (the Council).

Members of this Council provide advice jointly to the Minister for Transport and Roads and Minister for Regional Transport and Roads on the operation of maritime legislation, as well as maritime safety and expenditure priorities relating to maritime infrastructure and maritime research.  

Building on the strategic direction provided by the Maritime Safety Plan 2017-2021, Maritime Infrastructure Plan 2019-2024 and the Marine Estate Management Strategy 2018-2028, applicants must possess expertise in one of the following:

  • Recreational boating
  • Commercial boating
  • Maritime property

Further, applicants may also possess experience in one of the following maritime areas:

  • Safety
  • Infrastructure
  • Sustainability
  • Access

It should be noted that a person is not eligible for appointment to the Council if the person is a lobbyist of Government officials, of persons employed in the Transport Service or of persons engaged under contract to provide services to or on behalf of Transport for NSW (s 64(4) PAMAR).

The Council will meet up to two times per year in Sydney. Applications are encouraged from all users of our waterways recognising that diverse opinions support effective advice.

Members are appointed for a maximum term of 3 years and are not entitled to be remunerated in relation to their membership. However, they may be entitled to a travel and subsistence allowance incurred when attending meetings.
