Queensland State Jubilee Championship
The Tingira Boat Club based on Macleay Island will host a Queensland State Championship for the Jubilee one-design class yachts.
The Championships will be held on Easter Saturday and Sunday on the waters off the western side of Macleay Island.
The 18ft Jubilee Class was developed in 1935 to sail on Port Phillip Bay in Victoria. There are strong fleets still sailing in Port Phillip Bay, Ballarat and Sydney. Currently there are nine of these boats sailing in the Southern Moreton Bay area.
The local Jubilees are a mixture of the traditional timber boats and more recent fibreglass boats. Jubilees are usually sailed with a crew of three and owing to their one-design nature provide exciting and close racing. The Jubilees have a swing centreboard making them ideal for the shallow waters of Moreton Bay.
There are six races scheduled over the two days. On Saturday there will be three races commencing from 10:30am and continuing until 1:30pm.
On Sunday there will be another three races between 11:30am and 2:30pm. Afterwards the sailors will enjoy a BBQ, some refreshments and presentations at the Tingira Clubhouse.
