NSW Government logoEarly work started this week to build a new marina and wharf facilities at Bank Street in Pyrmont.

Transport for NSW Executive Director Maritime Mark Hutchings said the new marina and public space would provide the community with a new waterfront area to live, work and play.

“The Bays Precinct will be transformed in the next 20 to 30 years and as part of the redevelopment, the NSW Government is now starting work on this area which includes the relocated Blackwattle Bay marina,” Mr Hutchings said.

“The new facility will provide access to The Bays Waterfront Promenade and commercial and recreational boating.  A new waterside boardwalk will also be built which will allow the community and visitors to the area to further enjoy Sydney Harbour.

“These new facilities will support the NSW Government’s commitment to maintaining a working harbour and transport corridor in The Bays Precinct.

“Early work, including site establishment and delivery of construction materials, started this week with the project expected to be completed in August 2020, weather permitting.

“The community will see crews working hard to build a fixed wharf, floating pontoons and a timber walkway which will help to enhance the precinct.”

Work is being carried out between 7am and 6pm on weekdays and 8am and 1pm on Saturdays, weather permitting.

“While work is carried out, pedestrian access will be maintained along Bank Street at all times and bus routes will not be impacted,” Mr Hutchings said.

The NSW Government has committed $9.1 million to fund the new marina along Bank Street.
