MHYC Strengthens and Expands its ‘Discover Sailing’ Centre Team
Middle Harbour Yacht Club (MHYC), located north of Sydney at The Spit, Mosman has strengthened its commitment to Youth Sailing with the recent promotion of Andrew (Drew) Lucas and appointment of Elizabeth Turner to the Club’s ‘Discover Sailing’ Centre
Drew has progressed to his new role as Head Instructor responsible for managing the daily operations of the Club’s Discover Sailing Centre including ensuring coaching/instructing meets Australian Sailing Standards; training and mentoring the instructor team; reviewing procedures and upkeep/maintenance of the Club’s youth sailing vessels (Optimists, cadets, 420’s, Pacers, RIBS, coach boats) and equipment.
Drew, originally from the United Kingdom, has extensive experience in water sports instruction, sales and customer service obtained through a number of leadership roles in the Mediterranean, Croatia, Austria and Italy. He holds numerous nationally and internationally recognised instructor qualifications which, combined with his passion and commitment to sailing, ensures the MHYC’s Discover Sailing program provides exceptional, safe and fun training for children aged 7-18 years.
Elizabeth has joined the Discover Sailing Team as the Centre’s Administrator, bringing with her over 15 years of customer service, organisational skills and experience gained from the running of her Northern Beaches’ website and print media business. Elizabeth comes from a keen sailing family, having begun sailing Manly Juniors, Lasers and Hobie Cats as a child and continued through her adult life with her own family. Elizabeth says her next sailing adventure is a navigation of the Mediterranean with her family in the near future.
Middle Harbour Yacht Club’s General Manager, Karen Baldwin, says “The Club and particularly our members and wider community are benefitting from the combined sailing and training experience offered by both Drew and Elizabeth. The newly formed team is proving to be a valuable asset to the Club’s youth and school sailing program which goes from strength to strength.”
