2019 Spiral 4.5 'V' Nationals

Six boats contested the inaugural Spiral 4.5 Nationals at the Illawarra Yacht Club, rather remarkable as the division was only formatted a few months previously as a division for children from around 20 kg to around 45 kg.

Five carried single children from about 22 kg to 40 kg and one had two on board totalling around 60 kg, and was still competitive in all but very light patches.

Maarten Overton won eight of the nine races in mostly light conditions and will be a force to be reckoned with in the future. He was sometimes pressed by Korby Wingate who finished second with 14 points after the two discards, and Bailey Hardie rounded out the podium finishers.

All the participants really enjoyed the racing and are looking forward to future regattas. Thanks must go to officials from Illawarra Yacht Club, Oak Flats Sailing Club and Nowra Community Sailing Club and the junior sailors who all played their part in making this inaugural regatta such a resounding success.
