ORMA 60 – Gen 2 – Extraordinary boat

ORMA 60 – Gen 2 – This is an extraordinary ad for an Extraordinary boat.

A Van Peteghem Lauriot-Prévost design built in 1995 by the French Jeannau custom projects yard. Waterworld stared as the sailing vessel in the movie of the same name.

1 of 6 built from the moulds her most famous sister ship was “Pierre 1er” sailed solo by Florence Arthaud to place first in the Route du Rhum Transatlantic race. Later “Pierre 1er” was sold to Steve Fosset and renamed “Lakota” where Steve sailed her to many records.

Meanwhile Waterworld was brought by Howard Enloe and renamed “Loe Real” featuring part of the new owners name and meaning the real thing in Spanish.

In 2008 “Waterworld” now “Loe Real” was relaunched after a total rebuild into a fully functional offshore racer. She then went on to smash almost every US west coast sailing record. See the YouTube clip “overtaking barramundi” (https://youtu.be/TA7TTdg_Lfk).

The current owner purchased Loe Real to compete in the 2017 Transpac race. The Transpac was awesome with the only glitch being tearing our heavy screecher early on losing us a day or more in passage time. Despite this we still cut a day off Loe Real’s previous best time.

Afterwards a leisurely cruise across the Pacific from Hawaii to Brisbane was organised followed by many other adventures planned down under.

As skipper, what followed was one of greatest sails of my life skipping across the islands of the Pacific. Loe Real is a well-mannered yacht and was sailed short-handed for the entire trip.

She is a comfortable yacht with a cockpit / companionway, practical 50hp engine for manoeuvring, and an electric main halyard/sheet winch for raising the mainsail.

On the last night into Brisbane the enthusiasm to make landfall next morning and a fresher than forecast breeze allowed Loe Real to show her pedigree covering 255nm in the final 12hrs double handed.

Due to turning 80 years old and declining health, the current owner has decided that it is time for Loe Real to have new adventures with a new owner and is now offering her for sale for only the third time in her career.

This world famous boat is available at an entry level price that makes it possible for almost any person/small group to own and enjoy this once in a lifetime pure sailing and performance experience.
