Honda lifts the cowl of its new BF250 outboard
Honda has revealed details of its all-new BF250 outboard engine, which is scheduled to be available in Australia from early 2012.
Entering the next power range, the BF250 combines a new 3.6L V6 EFI engine with the world’s first direct air induction system in an outboard.
Beneath its distinct, angular and streamlined cowl, the BF250 incorporates exclusive Honda technologies including BLAST – advanced ignition timing control system that significantly improves hole-shot performance; ECOmo – sophisticated lean burn fuel control system, which contributes to the engine’s excellent fuel economy; and VTEC – variable valve timing technology originally developed for Formula One race cars to deliver incredible power.
A class-leading battery charging system also allows the BF250 to handle increasing consumer demand for additional onboard electrical power.
The new BF250 is also backed by Honda’s five-year warranty.

Superior Jetties creates curvaceous concept at RPAYC
Superior Jetties recently installed a new curved pontoon at the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club (RPAYC) in Pittwater, Sydney.
Close to 50m in length, the pontoon is a custom design of Superior Jetties’ Super Elite system and has been installed as a service wharf – allowing club members and the public to access the restaurant, chandlery and clubhouse from the water.
RPAYC facilities manager Dave Randall said the pontoon was a welcome addition to the club’s docking facilities.
“It’s given the club more flexibility as we can get boats around the back of it now … for example, we had around 25 Etchells moored there during the recent state regatta,” Randall said.
“The five-sided concrete floatation with polyethylene base, along with the 125mm-thick concrete deck, gives the whole structure a very solid mass which makes it reassuringly stable which is important with a higher level of use.”

Yacht Sentinel saves $220,000 boat
“I was about to head overseas for 10 days and started getting bilge alarm SMS alerts from my Yacht Sentinel boat monitor. On investigation, the bilge pump had physically failed with the impeller having come away from the shaft and water was over the top of the pump in the bilge. I’m not sure how it would have fared without a bilge pump while I was away,” says Smart1Marine customer.
The Yacht Sentinel device is not just an entry alarm system it also monitors your boat when you’re not on board. Bilge sensors will alert via SMS messaging if water ingress is above accepted levels. The Yacht Sentinel is a small price to pay to monitor your boat when you’re not on board.
The internal GPS can be used to track position, monitor the boat at anchor or alert if moved without consent.
