Variety set to make the biggest Splash yet!

19-Aug-2010
Victorian Boaters are getting ready to steer a steady course around Port Phillip to raise money for special needs and disadvantaged children as part of the fourth annual Variety Splash.

The three-day Variety Splash set to take place next February will follow a new course in 2011 to cater for growing participation in the popular event. Boats will head off from Docklands, stopping off at Queenscliff, and Mornington before heading to the grand finale at Sandringham.

Variety Victoria events manager Janette Connolly said, “The new route will contain the same level of festivities and fun – with a few new adventurous activities thrown in along the way!”

The Variety Splash, similar in style to the infamous Variety Bash, has its focus firmly placed on having fun, but as with all Variety events, the Splash too has a serious side. Its primary objective is to raise money for children in our community with a wide range of special needs.

By taking part in this wonderful social event, not only will participants have the time of their life but will also be instrumental in helping bring sunshine into the lives of many very special children.

The Variety Splash is a three day boat rally on Port Phillip, open to all sail and power boats, commencing at Waterfront City, Docklands, with an evening ‘Welcome’ function on Thursday 24th February 2011.

The following morning Splashers embark on the first leg taking participants to Queenscliff Harbour, where they will enjoy an ‘on the dock’ party and an evening of fine food, entertainment and great company. The second leg will take Splashers across the bay to Mornington Yacht Club, with a stop for lunch en route. Make sure you pack your disco gear, because that night it’s time to dress up and let your hair down.

On the final morning, after a lazy breakfast, it will be a leisurely cruise to Sandringham Yacht Club, where a relaxed afternoon ‘finishing line’ BBQ will signal the end of another Variety Splash.

It’s hoped that the 2011 event will raise approximately $150,000 for Special Needs Children. Expected participants will come from all walks of life including boat owners, recreational boaters, office workers, business owners and retirees, all dedicated to transforming the lives of these special children.

Entries are open now! One team that’s already starting to power up is Watters Electrical who once again have stepped aboard as a major event partner. The company raised an incredible $28,000 for the 2010 Variety Splash at its last annual Watters Electrical Ball.

To get involved all you need to do is gather a team and set yourselves a fundraising goal. Catch the ‘Bash’ spirit and challenge your team to be amongst the top fundraisers. Remember each small donation adds to your goal and the Variety Splash team are there to support you in your efforts.

Anyone interested in participating in the event, looking to become a sponsor, or wanting further details should contact the Event Manager, Jav Greaves on 0413 704 409.
