Sandringham Yacht Club in Melbourne has just added a further two award wins to its impressive and quickly increasing collection.

The Club, which renewed its premises and re-opened last October, won their two newest awards at the Boating Industry Association’s 2010 Victorian Marine Industry Awards held at Crown Casino.

Recipients were for Boating Industry of Australia members who were recognised in various categories. Sandringham YC won the “Safety Initiative by an Organisation” and the “Overall Industry Achiever” categories.

The first award encourages safety and responsible behaviour on and around the water. SYC were recognised for their industry leading OHS practices in their boat yard and marina and the OHS culture they have developed with all stakeholders in the marine community who utilise the Club.

In receiving the “Overall Industry Achiever” award, the Club was selected from the Industries best and brightest which had already received a 2010 award in one of the other categories.

Sandringham YC’s CEO, Richard Hewett, said the Club’s members were thrilled with the latest tributes. “These two awards are great recognition for our club, its members and those hardworking committees and their unflinching commitment to the Club’s vision over a sustained period.

“We are fortunate and grateful to receive industry awards, especially the overall achiever award, and it is directly attributable to our loyal, passionate and committed Membership,” he said.

Other awards accepted by this fast growing premier club in recent times include the ‘Community Hero Award’ for a member at the 10th annual Community Hero Awards, ‘Best Club Redevelopment Award’ at the annual Clubs Victoria Achievements Awards Night and ‘Best Community Facility Design’ at the annual Victorian Government 2009 Sport and Recreation Awards – all were won in a short space of time during November 2009.

Sandringham YC is a world class facility and is desirous of providing outstanding value to its members and to the community at large. It continues to be innovative and to grow in membership.

Among other awards the Club is most proud of are the 2007 and 2009 Environmental Awards at the Victorian Marine Industry Awards and the 2007 Victorian Yacht Club of the Year. SYC was also a top three finalist in the Marina of the Year awards in 2007.

Situated on Port Phillip Bay, with 360 degree water views, Sandringham YC is the ideal location for regattas and one of its major regattas is the ongoing hosting of Sail Melbourne, the first round of the prestigious ISAF World Cup for Olympic classes, which will be staged again at the Club in December 2010.
