Pack sun protection for winter escapes

09-Jul-2012
Take Cover owner Cathy Carew, whose Brisbane-based company manufactures and sells Australian made rashies, said grey skies at home could lull holiday makers into a false sense of security. Even in July the same sun smart messages apply for Australians packing for a winter escape to warmer northern climates.

“The temperature at destinations like Bali, Phuket, Broome and Port Douglas is still in the high twenties and early thirties and the UV exposure is still a threat,” she said.
“Packing sun protection at home can save a lot of grief at the destination so don’t forget to take cover.”

Cathy said the quality of rashies at holiday destinations, particularly foreign ones, could be well below what was available at home. The stylish Take Cover range includes extra features such as two-way front zips and hanging loops for sunglasses. The rashies are made from chlorine-proof Italian fabric that iselastane free so they won’t perish even after spending a lot of time in the pool.

The former King Gee-designer trained for 14 months in Milan before perfecting the unique design for her Australian-made rashies.

“The idea is to manufacture each style in limited-edition quantities so you’re not seeing yourself at the beach. Because the material is durable, the designs are also made to last several seasons‚” she said.

Rashies from the range can be ordered online.
