Metung Yacht club to host The Prince Philip Cup

The Prince Philip Cup, the national championship for International Dragons is being hosted this year by the Metung Yacht club in the pristine and beautiful Gippsland Lakes of east Victoria over the week of the 7th January to the 13th.

Contestants are coming from far and wide with the latest challengers including Jessica Watson OAM, distinguished for being the youngest ever to solo circumnavigate the world by sail, and a crew from the United Kingdom. A crack Norwegian father and son crew, John and Kristian Hatch, not satisfied by winning their own Nationals, have borrowed a boat from Terry Grundy’s fine stable of Dragons to do battle in our home waters to try to wrest the prestigious cup from other top sailors from around the world.

The Victorian state championship for International Dragons held in Lake King last year has given us a taste of what is to come, with fiercely competitive and exemplary sailing in a range of conditions. The Metung Yacht club eagerly anticipates the forthcoming nationals and encourages as many as possible to get out on the water to witness this spectacular event.
