Become a Youth Training Program Volunteer with Sydney Heritage Fleet

12-Apr-2017
The Sydney Heritage Fleet is keen to develop and expand its Youth Training Programs on board the restored 1874 Tall Ship the James Craig and other fleet vessels. These activities include sleepovers, day excursions with alongside activities and sailing adventures as well as delivery of new history based educational programs. In order to achieve this development the Fleet is seeking suitable volunteers to be part of the Youth Program delivery team.

Sydney Heritage Fleet offers groups a range of educational programs with the dual goals of increasing the understanding of our nation’s rich maritime heritage and to help in the personal development of the young participants.

The Sydney Heritage Fleet specialises in providing experiential, hands-on living history education programs to school-aged children. The programs provide opportunities for the young people of Australia to experience adventure on an authentic Tall Ship and to taste 19th Century maritime living.

Helping out with youth activities is a fun way to participate in the Sydney Heritage Fleet! You will get to introduce young people to the exciting world of 19th Century life at sea, while at the same time learning new skills and meeting interesting people.

As a part of the Youth Program delivery team of volunteers you also can have the opportunity to be a valued crew member of Australia’s premier Tall Ship the James Craig allowing you to be involved in other aspects of operating and sailing this magnificent ship.

You may enjoy history, sailing, teaching or have a maritime background or simply have a passion for working with youth to allow them to reach their full potential. No matter what your experience level the Sydney Heritage Fleet Youth Program Team would love to hear from you and full training will be provided in a wide range of tasks.

All volunteers will be required to have or obtain a current Working with Children Check Clearance. This is free for all volunteers. Sydney Heritage Fleet takes child protection very seriously and you will be asked to sign a Code of Conduct and adhere to the Fleet’s various child protection policies and practices.
