100th Botany Bay Race

12-Mar-2010
The 100th Botany Bay Championship and Stuart Shield Challenge 16’ skiff race was sailed in a stiff 25 knot Nor’ Easter on Sunday 7th March around Botany Bay from St George Sailing Club.

Boats competing travelled from Belmont, Illawarra and the traditional Sydney 16’ Skiff clubs.

Viewing from the club’s deck was spectacular as boats with kites set, after circling the bay, re-entered Georges River and headed to Taren Point, then completed a windward - return down to the club.

The eventual winner after plenty of retirements was a Belmont boat - MITRE 10 KURRI KURRI skippered by Kieran Humphries with Keagan York on sheet and Rob Napper upfront. The race came down to the last gybe where BOB JANE T MARTS EDGECLIFFE (Greg Searant) opted to go further but needed to drop their spinnaker early to lay the finish line. The handicap race result was the same.
