NSW storms - Club Marine’s swift response to members in need  28-Apr-2015
Club Marine’s Catastrophe Response Team is on the ground with a team of specialists as storm-battered NSW cleans up after a devastating, once-in-a-decade storm. The clean-up has begun in New South Wales after a once-in-a-decade storm brought relentless rain and winds, claiming four lives and causing devastation in 12 declared natural disaster areas.

The 2015 Beyond Bank Regatta went off well despite a dismal forecast. This and the ANZAC centenary commemorations deterred a few potential competitors. There were still 70 boats entered with strong fleets in the Lightweight Sharpie, B14 and Hobie 16 classes.

  
Boaters urged to postpone non essential boating as clean up continues  24-Apr-2015
Roads and Maritime Services is urging people to avoid non-essential boating on flood-affected waterways this weekend as the clean up continues from this week’s wild weather. Maritime Director Angus Mitchell said Roads and Maritime crews were working around the clock to remove debris from the water, reinstate navigation aids and signs and help boat owners recover vessels. Waterways which are most affected by the impacts of flooding are in the Hunter, Central Coast and the upper Parramatta River.

The clear, warm waters of the Sunshine Coast are the place to be for sailors this Winter, with the combination of the Sunshine Coast Ocean Regatta (SCOR) and the Queensland IRC State Titles in July. After the success of the Sunshine Coast Ocean Regatta (SCOR)’s revival last year, the renowned event will once again be held in the sparkling coastal waters between Noosa and Caloundra.

Following the participation of Craig Carter’s Carkeek 47 yacht Indian in the 2014 Sydney-Hobart, where Indian finished 17th out of the 118 starters, boat captain Paul Eldrid said everything they had learned during the race plus a healthy respect for the weather would be drawn on when Indian races in the 2015 Wonderful Indonesia Fremantle to Bali Race, which starts Saturday May 16 at 10.00 am.

Great Veterans and Ladies Day kick starts Land Rover Winter Series  20-Apr-2015
Nick Cassim, a 55-year member of the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, has today taken out the Club’s 2015 Great Veterans Race, which along with Ladies Day, traditionally opens the Land Rover Winter Series sailed on Sydney Harbour. Cassim sailed his Robert Clark designed Lolita to a near minute overall victory over another long standing CYCA member, Carl Sriber and his S&S 37, Suraya, with Darren Strachan’s Alan Payne designed Lorita Maria third overall.
