Product & industry review
Seawind Catamarans has been named Australian Marine Exporter of the Year at the 2010 Australian International Marine Export (AIMEX) awards.
Announced during the recent Sydney International Boat Show, Seawind was also awarded for the Best Marine Industry Export Marketing Strategy.
Managing director and founder of Seawind Catamarans Richard Ward said winning the awards was “extremely pleasing” and for which the company owed its loyal customers and talented team of boatbuilders.
“Even against a strong Australian dollar and cheaper competition, Seawind Catamarans is surviving and, indeed, prospering and this is a testament to the high quality of Seawind’s designs and construction,” Mr Ward said.
Seawind Catamarans is Australia’s largest designer and builder of ocean capable cruising catamarans and has been operating for over 28 years.
With 10 dealers around the world and through attendance at 19 international boat shows (of which 13 are outside Australia), Seawind Catamarans is thoroughly committed to the export market.

No Harm No Foul!
Now at last there is a proven product on the market, which completely takes the worry out of antifouling, no dry docking, no more hull scraping, and painting … the 2B Sure the Environmentally Friendly Anti-fouling system.
Designed primarily for all size of vessels, the anti–fouling system can be also applied on other seawater objects, like navigation buoys, pontoons, barges or be applied on the sea bed so that several boats can be protected at the same time.
The 2B Sure system which runs on 12 VDC 240v or Solar consists of two special mobile electrodes and one control case. Due to the interaction of copper-ions and the electric field that consists between the two electrodes, a protection zone is created. The substances created are environmentally friendly.
The Anti-fouling system can be applied on all material (wood, metal, polyester).

Woolwich Marina Comes of Age
One of Sydney’s oldest marinas, Woolwich Marina, located in the stately old tree lined suburb of Hunters Hill is finally seeing a major makeover.
Having acquired the marina in 2005 the Newton family commenced a program of improvements to bring Woolwich into the 21st century. After investing substantially in 2008/09 to upgrade the marina building they have now received approval to proceed with a new 40-berth and mooring floating marina to replace the piled structure that has seen better days.
Like so many marina owning families the Newtons have an extensive range of marine interests including the local Rolly Tasker Sails agency (trading under SailSolutions) and All Marine, a leading on-line chandlery aimed at the cruiser/racer skiff and yacht market.
Son Sam is also well known on the Harbour as a rigger and race boat manager of note as well as being a pretty competent sailor having won a Hobart, a few world skiff titles along with his current hat of 18-footer champion.
The marina, with uninterrupted views of the Bridge and city skyline, will cater for around 40 boats from 10-18 metres. With unrestricted parking just outside the gate it is an ideal location and should readily appeal to the local boating fraternity. There is a new toilet/shower block, an on-site rigger, shipwrights and three slipways for all sizes of vessels along with a brokerage. Construction is already underway by Bellingham Marine and is due for completion on 2 December.
