  1. The RAN conducted a Fleet Entry into Sydney Harbour on 13 March with 15 surface vessels. Collins class Submarine HMAS Farncomb was anchored off Clarke Island. A Freedom of Entry Parade was then conducted with personnel from the vessels and 7 ‘stone frigates’ (shore establishments).
  2. Winner of the Gloucester Cup for the most proficient ship in the Australian fleet in 2008, was HMAS Parramatta whose company led the Freedom of Entry.
  3. The first name given to Botany Bay was Sting Ray Harbour, by Captain James Cook in 1770. Following Joseph Banks’ discoveries there, the name was changed to Botanist Bay and then Botany Bay.
  4. Overall champions of the March 2009 Audi Sydney Harbour Regatta were Brett and Karen Pearce with their yacht’s Broulee crew.
  5. A North cardinal mark showing safe water to the north has double vertical cones pointing up. A South mark has two cones pointing down, while an East mark has two cones pointing away from each other.
