Australia Day on Sydney Harbour  

  NSW Maritime will coordinate a large fleet of vessels on Monday, 26 January – Australia Day – to ensure that all the planned activities for Sydney Harbour are able to run smoothly. 
  In all, there will be 21 NSW Maritime and volunteer marine rescue vessels on patrol on the day, as well as a dozen Police vessels. 
  Skippers are invited to be part of the fun with a large line up of events planned, including the Best Dressed Vessel Competition, Royal Australian Air Force’s F/A-18 Hornets flyovers, Darling Harbour – the Australia Day Spectacular featuring a light, sound a fireworks show.

Tips for skippers and spectators  

  Skippers and spectators should:  
  • Observe the 6-knot “no wash” speed limit;  
  • Follow the advice of authorities regarding the special traffic coordination arrangements for each event;  
  • Make sure everyone has a lifejacket;  
  • Be mindful of fatigue and sunburn and keep under the 0.05 alcohol limit;  
  • Ensure vessels have the appropriate working navigation lights, particularly for the night-time events; and  
  • Be aware of quiet spots where you can take a break, and relax from the day’s activities on the Harbour: Berry’s Bay and Snails Bay to the west and Taylor’s Bay and Athol Bay to the east.
