No matter which boats collect the trophies, special needs children will be the real winners of the sixth annual Variety Putt Putt and Classic Boat Carnival on the Georges River this month.
Hosted by the St George Motor Boat Club at Sans Souci, this colourful event has become a 'must do' for classic boat and putt-putt owners and enthusiasts and it gets underway at the club on the corner of Vista and Wellington Streets on Sunday 28 March.
Proceeds from the day will go to Variety, The Children's Charity to help improve the lives of sick, disadvantaged and special needs children in NSW.
Variety organiser Geoff Davis says the Putt Putt Carnival is a complete day out for the whole family, and as well as a chance to see a flotilla of lovingly restored historic vessels taking to the water, there will also be plenty to see and do along the dockside, including live bands, food stalls, charity raffles, and clowns and face painting for the children. Hot rods and vintage dirt-track speedcars will also be on show.
"As well as enjoying the facilities of this award-winning club, there will also be a chance for boaties to pick up a bargain at a boot-sale marine parts and accessories market in Anderson Park next to the club," Geoff said.
The Carnival is open to Putt Putt boats and classic Cabin Cruisers, with a minimum $50 entry fee per vessel going to Variety. Trophies and awards include best classic boat, best themed boat, highest fundraiser and overall winner.
Putt Putt Carnival registration and boaties boardwalk breakfast commence dockside at the club at 9am. Marine market place set up is at 8am with a $30 per site donation to Variety. The on-water activities will get underway at 10am.
