Great White Shark Expert Kicks Off Marine Park Lecture Series

05-Mar-2010
Shark expert Barry Bruce from the CSIRO will give a fascinating insight into the movements of great white sharks later this month at the inaugural Jervis Bay Marine Park series of marine lectures.

The talk by Barry Bruce will be held from 7pm on Thursday 18th March at the Lady Denman Museum, Huskisson.

Jervis Bay Marine Park manager Matt Carr said the series of marine talks would cover a range of topics relevant and of interest to the community and the marine park.

“We’re really pleased to be able to offer this series of informative talks and hope the community get a lot out of it.

“We live on this beautiful stretch of coast and yet so much of what happens beneath the water remains a mystery.”

Mr Carr said he was looking forward to hearing about Barry Bruce’s great white shark research and tagging program. He said the tagging program had been highlighted on the ABC science show Catalyst recently.

“Barry has literally been working alongside these sharks for ten years now and it will be enlightening to hear where the research is up to and of course some of the findings to date.

“We hope lots of people turn up to hear the talk, which will be free. Supper will also be provided and it should be a great night. Don’t forget to book with the Museum prior to the night. Inquiries can be directed to the Museum on 4441 5675.”
