Ladies Luck – Sou’ South-Easterly Winds for Ladies Day Race - Audi Winter Series

The 65 starters in the closing ladies day race of the Audi Winter Series, were greeted with a sun drenched Sydney Harbour, warm winter temperatures of 15C and a steady 8 knots of sou’ south-easterly breeze, in the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia organised race. Many boats got into the true spirit of the day dressing up in colourful costumes and wigs including the start boat led by Principal Race Officer Jennifer Birdsall.

Faeroe Islands: Undercover Operation Exposes Cetacean Mass Slaughter

July 19, 2010, a pod of 236 pilot whales was ruthlessly slaughtered in the town of Klaksvik in the Danish Faeroe Islands. Sea Shepherd was able to document the slaughter through the efforts of an undercover operative who had been living among the locals in order to capture footage of “the grind.” The grind is a cruel method of whaling that involves stranding pods of cetaceans in coves before severing their spinal chords with knives.

29th Minnow National Championships – Darwin Sailing Club

Darwin turned on idyllic conditions; warm weather, light sailing conditions and beautiful sunsets. This combined with a great yacht club and friendly people made for a wonderful regatta wowing the WA visitors. Twelve of the registered 60 West Australian Minnows from Shelley Sailing Club and The Cruising Yacht Club travelled to Darwin for the National Championship.

Sandringham Yacht Club wins two more industry awards

Sandringham Yacht Club in Melbourne has just added a further two award wins to its impressive and quickly increasing collection. The Club, which renewed its premises and re-opened last October, won their two newest awards at the Boating Industry Association’s 2010 Victorian Marine Industry Awards held at Crown Casino. Recipients were for Boating Industry of Australia members who were recognised in various categories. Sandringham YC won the “Safety Initiative by an Organisation” and the “Overall Industry Achiever” categories.

Fantastic finale to Clipper 09-10 Round the World Yacht Race

A spectacular welcome greeted the crews of the Clipper 09-10 Round the World Yacht Race as they arrived back in Hull at the end of their 35,000-mile circumnavigation. For the non-professional crew onboard the ten ocean racing yachts, the return to Hull Marina marks the end of a challenge of a lifetime as they battled the elements in search of victory and the title of Clipper 09-10 Round the World Yacht Race champions.

The 125 starters in the final pointscore race of the Audi Winter Series, were greeted with a sun drenched Sydney Harbour and warm winter temperatures of 15C but alas not much wind, in the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia organised race. In many divisions this race was going to determine who took first place and the spoils of victory and who was relegated further down the leaderboard.
