CLIPPER 09-10 West Aust Stopover - Eight boats alongside at Batavia Coast Marina

Eight of the ten boats have now arrived in Geraldton at the end of the 4,700-mile Southern Ocean leg from Cape Town. California was the eighth boat to cross the line yesterday, just seven hours behind Race 4 winners, Team Finland. It is a rarity in a round the world yacht race to have so many boats finish so close together and provided the people of Geraldton with a real spectacle as they all arrived in daylight hours.

Team Finland takes line honours in Southern Ocean leg of Clipper 09-10

Team Finland has secured their third victory of the Clipper 09-10 Round the World Yacht Race, crossing the finish line in Geraldton, Western Australia, at 1210 local time (0410 GMT). Team Finland finished just 33 minutes ahead of Spirit of Australia, denying the Australian team the home port victory that they were so desperate to achieve.

Alfa Romeo puts the brakes on Wild Oats’ winning streak in SOLAS Big Boat Challenge

Neville Crichton’s 100 foot Alfa Romeo has sounded the warning bell for this year’s Rolex Sydney Hobart, capitalising on a costly mistake aboard Wild Oats XI to take a resounding victory in the SOLAS Big Boat Challenge. “The difference was Ricko getting a twisted sail. Today’s race was a bit of fun, but it’s more fun to win,” said Crichton.

Boating Usage Report Released

The National Marine Safety Council’s National Boating Usage Study recruited 3 800 boaters from across Australia to participate in a survey and fill in a trip diary from October 2008 to March 31 2010. The National Boating Usage Study Preliminary Survey Report is the first stage of the study and analyses survey data, which 2818 boaters opted to fill in.
