Solitary Islands Marine Park Zoning Review 02-Aug-2010
The Marine Parks Authority is encouraging people interested in the Solitary Islands Marine Park to comment on proposed changes to the zoning plan with submissions open until September 17, 2010. Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water North Coast regional manager Alan Jeffery said the zoning for the Solitary Islands Marine Park has been reviewed in accordance with the Marine Parks Act and a new proposed draft zoning plan is currently out for public comment.

Funding Certainty for Marine Rescue NSW 28-Jul-2010
NSW Boaters have voted overwhelmingly in favour of providing ongoing support to volunteer organisation, Marine Rescue NSW. Minister for Ports and Waterways, Paul McLeay today announced the boating community had committed to a financial contribution of $7.50 from boating licences and registrations.

Southport Yacht Club elects Rob Mundle as Commodore 28-Jul-2010
Prominent sailor, journalist and author, Rob Mundle, has been elected unopposed as Commodore of Southport Yacht Club, on the Gold Coast. After serving two terms with the club’s Board of Directors he now replaces Neale Hollier in the top post. Neale served four years as Commodore and an additional five years on club committees. On standing down at what was the club’s 63rd Annual General Meeting he was nominated for Life Membership.

Plastiki Arrives in Sydney 27-Jul-2010
After sailing more than 8,000 nautical miles and spending 128 days crossing the Pacific, the world’s largest ocean, in a boat made of 12,500 plastic PET bottles, the Plastiki expedition and her crew have safely and successfully reached their planned destination of Sydney to cheers of welcome and support.

Ladies Luck – Sou’ South-Easterly Winds for Ladies Day Race - Audi Winter Series 26-Jul-2010
The 65 starters in the closing ladies day race of the Audi Winter Series, were greeted with a sun drenched Sydney Harbour, warm winter temperatures of 15C and a steady 8 knots of sou’ south-easterly breeze, in the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia organised race. Many boats got into the true spirit of the day dressing up in colourful costumes and wigs including the start boat led by Principal Race Officer Jennifer Birdsall.

Faeroe Islands: Undercover Operation Exposes Cetacean Mass Slaughter 23-Jul-2010
July 19, 2010, a pod of 236 pilot whales was ruthlessly slaughtered in the town of Klaksvik in the Danish Faeroe Islands. Sea Shepherd was able to document the slaughter through the efforts of an undercover operative who had been living among the locals in order to capture footage of “the grind.” The grind is a cruel method of whaling that involves stranding pods of cetaceans in coves before severing their spinal chords with knives.
